What does it mean to be a neurosurgeon?

Project Synapse introduces K-12 students, including those from under-represented, low-income and historically excluded backgrounds, to what a career in medicine and neurosurgery looks like.

12% of board-certified neurosurgeons are women and fewer than 4% of neurosurgical residents are black, indigenous, or people of color.

By the year of 2050, it is predicted that the majority of the population will be people of color. However, the medical workforce, especially physicians, does not reflect the demographics of the general population.

At Project Synapse, we work with educational institutions to teach students about neuroscience, medicine and the field of neurosurgery. Through presentations, interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning, we are bringing these experiences directly to their communities, inspiring them to pursue careers in science and medicine.
