Lane Tech College Prep

In April 2023, 7th and 8th graders at Lane Tech attended a Project Synapse event. Following an introductory neuroscience presentation, students rotated through 8 different stations, during which they learned more about the nervous system and heard stories from neurosurgical patients.

Hands-On Learning

After the presentation, students rotated through stations, learning more about the nervous system through hands-on activities.

Brain and Skull

Dr. Aruna Ganju taught students about the brain Through various models, students explored the brain, learning about its functions, how it is protected, and what happens when it is injured.

Spinal Cord and Column

Rya Muller taught students about the spinal column and cord using models and medical imaging. Students also learned strategies for spine health maintenance.

Reflex Arcs

Dr. Aaron Palmer taught students about reflex arcs. Students were gifted a Project Synapse reflex hammer and taught how to test reflexes. This allowed student to see the nervous system in action.

Autonomic Nervous System

Breath coach Ms. Danielle Gordon led students through breathing exercises. Students were taught how to use their breath to modulate their nervous system, applying the science to real life.
